Editors of theJournal of Mountain Science held a scientific writing workshop at the Chengdu University of Technology (CDUT) in March, 2015
The Journal of Mountain Science editors plans to hold a series of author training workshops on scientific writing at the Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, Chinese Academy Sciences, and delivers the workshop to other institutes and universities.
The first Chengdu University of Technology workshop was held on March 29, 2015.
At the invitation of Prof. HU Wei of CDUT, the editors of the Journal of Mountain Science held a scientific writing workshop with teachers and graduate students of the State Key Laboratory of Geohazard Prevention and Geoenvironment Protection in Chengdu University of Technology.
QIU Dunlian, the executive editor-in-chief, introduced the fast developmental trends of the Journal of Mountain Science and its increasing international influence. Then she narrated on the subject of manuscript preparation, especially literature citations and reference indexing, figure preparation, and table formatting. She stressed the key points that students and young scientists should pay special attention to in authorship and literature quotation.
Laurence SVIRCHEV, the language editor, made a presentation on “Scientific writing for international publication in methods and styles”. He used examples from the articles he once edited to demonstrate some aspects of English composition that Chinese authors frequently leave out of their manuscripts, such as whether the findings are supported &validated by other research or the findings challenge other research, the limitations and sources of error, and suggestions for further research.
