Work experience

-      Since 2019 I am also Assistant Lecturer for the II level Master in "Engineering Geology", fully in English, held by the Unesco Chair on Prevcention and Sustainable Management of Geo-Hydrological Hazards.

-      Since 2017 I am Lecturer for the class "Basics and Applications of Geology and Geomorphology" in the framework of the course "Urban, Landscape and Terrritorial Planning" at the Dept. of Architecture of the University of Florence, and Assistant Lecturer for the class "Engineering Geology" at the Department of Earth Sciences.

-      Since 2016 I have been collaborating with the UNESCO Chair of the University of Florence on Prevention and Sustainable Management of Geo-Hydrological Hazards, for the protection and conservation of the UNESCO World heritage affected by soil erosion and slope instability problems, dealing with geomorphological and thermographic surveys on cultural heritage affected by instability problems (i) Byzantine monastery of Vardzia (Georgia); (ii) historical center of Antananarivo (Madagascar); iii) David Gareja monastery complex (Georgia).

-      In 2014 the same year I have obtained a PhD (Doctor Europeaus) in Engineering Geology at Department of Earth Sciences of the University of Florence, with a thesis entitled "Application of infrared thermography to the analysis of slope instability processes: a rapid tool for remote surveying and emergency management".

-      In 2013 I have carried out a three months research period at the University of Aveiro (Departamento de Ambiente and Ordenamento), Portugal, as part of the European project CASCADE, applying experimentally infrared thermography for the mapping of slopes affected by wildfire, and for the characterization of road slopes affected by instability processes.

Since July 2010 I have been employed as a research fellow in Engineering Geology under the supervision of Prof. Nicola Casagli at the Department of Earth Sciences of the Florence University (Italy), where I have carried out research in the field of applied research in several research projects at national and international level. In this context, I worked on the characterization of risk scenarios for slope instability processes, through the integration of detailed geomorphological surveys and advanced remote sensing techniques (infrared thermography and laser scanning). I have also applied operative procedures for the analysis and the interpretation of monitoring data (satellite and ground-based interferometry) for analysing slope deformations in the context of Civil Protection landslide emergency management and geo-disaster risk reduction.

Research interest

-    My research topic is mapping, characterization and monitoring of slope instability processes and unstable volcanic flanks, through the integration of advanced remote sensing techniques (InfraRed Thermography, Laser Scanning, GB-InSAR, spaceborne InSAR) and detailed geomorphological, geological and geomechanical surveys. The final aim of my research is to assess landslide risk scenarios in the context of Civil Protection landslide emergency management and geo-disaster risk reduction strategies.

-     Protection and conservation of Cultural Heritage sites affected by soil erosion and slope instability problems.
