Research Interests

Associate professor of soil science at the University of Torino, received his PhD in Soil Chemistry with an emphasis in the processes at soil/snow interface. His main research interest is the functioning of mountain soils, focusing on the effect of climate change and human activities on soil properties. Particular interest is placed on the impact of skiing and related winter recreational activities on mountain environments, including the snow avalanche management on ski resorts. He has current and past research activities in many of the mountain ranges throughout the world, including the Rocky Mountains and the Himalayas. He is director of Summer School IPROMO -  International Programme on Research and Training on Sustainable Management of Mountain Areas, in collaboration with the FAO-Mountain Partnership. He is member of the Italian Soil Science Society and coordinator of Division IV The Role of Soils in Sustaining Society and the Environment.
