Editorial Member Prof. Kenneth HEWITT visited IMHE

At the invitation of Prof. QIU Dunlian, Prof. Kenneth HEWITT from Wilfrid Laurier University, visited the Institute of Mountain Hazards (IMHE), Chinese Academy of Sciences while he came to Chengdu to attend the 4th International Symposium on Mega Earthquake Induced Geo-disasters and Long Term Effects which was held in the Chengdu University of Technology during May 8th to 11th.

On May 8th, Prof. Hewitt had a talk with JMS editors and gave some suggestions on how to organize special issues and raise journal international impact.

When learning that editorial member, Prof. Matthias KHULE lost his life in Nepal Earthquake while accompanying a party of students on a field excursion, Prof. QIU proposed JMS editors and members hold a special memory on Prof. Khule, a world renowned glacial geomorphologist from the University of Göttingen. Several members have discussed and decided to write a memorial article for  Prof.Matthias Khule, and organize a special issue on glacier research.

On May 15th morning, Prof. Hewitt gave a lecture to the staffs and students in the Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment on the subject "A naturally fragmented high mountain river system: the transhimalayan upper Indus Basin". Then, Prof. CUI Peng, the Editor-in-Chief, Prof Hewitt, and the editors had a lunch together.
